Lost the starter the other day….just hit the button, it started to turn over then went to nothing….everything else electrical works….but the starter.
What make is the existing starter?….Would you recommend staying with the “stock” starter or moving on to another make???? If I move on to another make will the “Jackshaft” components as installed now work?
loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 12, 2013 at 7:09 am #3010Stock starter is a Spyke 400215. Retails for $397.95 (see link below). Any brand will work as long as the application is for a 1990-93 Big Twin. I can get yours rebuilt for $100.
loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 12, 2013 at 7:21 am #3011Headjanitor,
Thanks for the quick reply……I have one more check to make, jumping the starter with remote button….will let you know the results….if it works as jumped….the problem is somewhere in the wiring, Buttons, ignition switch etc…
I am away from home at this time and will not be there for another few days…………..
Will get back to you on the particulars of the rebuild you relate to, if the starter will not jump……Hoping it is the starter and not the aforementioned electrical scenereo!

loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 12, 2013 at 7:29 am #3012Use a 10 gauge wire and jump from the B+ post on the battery to the trigger on the coil. If it starts then you have a bad relay or start button.
loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 12, 2013 at 7:34 am #3014Headjanitor,
Thankyou again!!!!
I’ll let you know the status when I return home and have followed your instructions.

loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 12, 2013 at 9:37 am #3016Whoops, not the coil, the solenoid on the starter. I was talking to a customer about a coil as I was typing the response to your message. Pull the small wire/plug off the solenoid and jump the wire there.
loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 12, 2013 at 11:07 am #3017Headjanitor,
That sounds more like it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the quick corrected response……you really had my brother going!!!!
Nothing will happen until I return to my residence….knowone touches my scoot without me there…..

loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 25, 2013 at 10:45 am #3030I also have an 05 Banshee 3 years ago same problem
1. Purchased new Battery – No Fix
2. Sent starter to Spyke great guys rebuilt, cleaned up looked like new when returned – No Fix
3. Finally went into the wiring box (lot of fun) starter relay was burned up $12.00 at local parts store – Problem Fixed – you should start there
This was through the entire summer of 2010 changed the relay in October I have not have a starting problem sinceloop-single-reply.phpSeptember 25, 2013 at 11:37 am #3031Have tested the starter…jumped from the solenoid relay tab on the solenoid to the pos battery terminal…..turns over just fine.
Is the wiring box you are referring to the box attached to the rear fender guard? It looks like the solenoid relay wire disappears into that box. It also looks like it is a big hassle just to get to it.I was hoping that it was one of the buttons on the handlebar (Run/Stop) or the (Starter Button) next to it.
Have not had a chance to go any further than jumping as described above.
Thankyou for the heads up….I’ll let you know when I get it going.
loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 25, 2013 at 11:50 am #3032Yes it’s in that box and you’ll need to take off the rear tire to access it.
loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 26, 2013 at 5:47 am #3033My rely was inside the chrome box that has the key switch
loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 26, 2013 at 8:17 am #3034Thanks for the heads up!!!!!!
Well the chrome ignition/key switch is nore accessable than the plastic “black box” mounted on the fender splash behind the starter……..but the solenoid relay wire does dissappear into the “black box”
I will just start following the wire until the relay or the short is found is found.
Headjanitor,
What do you think???????

loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 26, 2013 at 11:53 am #3037My Relay is in this box packed like sardines with a lot of other stuff like the smart box for the turn signals it took several hours and a heat gun to get all back in there
Attachments:loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 26, 2013 at 10:24 pm #3039SSIPRES,
THANKYOU FOR THE HELP AND THE PHOTO…AS YOU CAN SEE BY MY PHOTO THE “CHROME KEY/IGNITION BOX’ IS THE SAME ONLY MOUNTED UPSIDE DOWN FROM YOURS…..I WILL START HERE, BUT IT IS REALLY WIERD THAT THE SOLENOID RELAY WIRE DOES DISAPPEAR INTO THE “BLACK BOX” BEHIND THE STARTER….WHICH I CAN HEAR THE TURN SIGNAL CLICKER WORKING…MAYBE THIS BOX IS ALSO ACTING AS A JUNCTION BOX FOR THE WIRING TO THE RELAY IN THE “CHROME KEY/IGNITION BOX”
I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN RESOLVED
AGAIN THANKS!!!!THIS FORUM HAS HELPED ME A NUMBER OF TIMES AND THE HELP PROVIDED IS INVAUABLE!!!!!
