hey guys… sorry I’m late to the party. The box on ssipres bike is actually larger than revemup’s, and has the starter relay in the key box. The 03/early 04 bikes had a better looking keybox that was too small to put anything in so it was all in the black box mounted on the splash guard. It took us about a year and half to realize that was a bad idea, because as the head janitor said… you’ve got to pull the rear wheel to get to it. So that is your next stop. Buy the highest quality starter relay you can get (aka Napa not AutoZone) because you are not going to want to have to do this again for a long time.
By the way, I have the newer style key box in my 03 Vendetta… but I had the luxury of having my starter relay moved from the splash guard to the new style key box when mine failed.
loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 27, 2013 at 5:02 am #3044VENMC,
AFTER SEEING YOUR ANSWER…..CAME HOME FOR LUNCH TO LOOK AT THE SITUATION AGAIN…CONFUSED?
PLEASE REFER TO THE ATTACHED PHOTOS…..MY “CHROME IGNITION/KEY” BOX LOOKS LIKE IT IS ACTUALLY LARGER THAN SSIPRES’…THE DIMENSIONS ARE 6″TALL X 3″DEEP X 1.5″WIDE…SOOOOOOO, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT THE RELAY IS IN THE “BLACK BOX” MOUNTED ON THE INSIDE OF THE SPLASH GUARD….NOT THE “CHROME IGNITION/KEY BOX”?????????????
IF SO, NOT ONLY DOES THE WHEEL COME OFF BUT THE FENDER THEN THE SPLASH GUARD WILL HAVE TO BE REMOVED TO ACCESS THE “BLACK BOX” OR REMOVE THE STARTER AND REMOVE THE “BB” FROM THE THE INSIDE…SEE ATTACHED PHOTO.
LIKE I SAID EARLIER….THE SOLENOID RELAY WIRE DOES DISAPPEAR INTO THE “BB” BUT WAS HOPING THE THE “BB” WAS ACTING AS A JUNCTION BOX AND SENDING THE RELAY WIRE TO THE RELAY IN HE “CHROME IGNITION BOX”
PLEASE ADVISE WHEN CONVENIENT…..

Attachments:loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 27, 2013 at 6:01 am #3045Its a photo illusion… your key switch box is actually a smaller.
Your starter relay will be in that box on the splash guard. I’ll defer to Jim (Head Janitor) on whether you can get to it from the front by removing the starter. And on the Banshee, yes the tire comes off first, then the fender. On the Warrior/Raider the fender first and then the tire.

Style 87104You can also use a Bosch style# 87104. The Hella’s seemed to hold up better. Ebay is your cheapest option for this part.
loop-single-reply.phpOctober 16, 2013 at 11:03 pm #3054October 17, 2013 at 12:05 am #3055If you don’t want to wait ordering on internet you can take it to a good parts store like NAPA and they can read the imprinted diagram and get one on the spot. My mechanic read mine and called the Advance Auto Parts up the street and they had it on the counter when I arrived. I am not sure the brand name I wound up with and in your case of hard to get to – quality maybe worth the wait
loop-single-reply.phpOctober 17, 2013 at 12:11 am #3056Yes, any part store can get one off the shelf but in most cases it’s the cheap chinese copies that don’t hold up well. The Hella’s usually come from distributors that want you to order 50-100 which is why I use ebay.
loop-single-reply.phpOctober 17, 2013 at 1:28 am #3057Hey Guys, re: Hella 4 RD 960 388-25
Thanks for the comments….Ebay – no, NAPA – no, Amazon – no
On line at ZA parts = $21.20 shipped, in a week to my pad……
Oh yeh….IT SAYS IT IS A FIVE (5) PIN RELAY…..OK????
Have access to to the “Black” box but have not opened up until I get the proper part….will then be able to transfer connections without crossing,
so I do not know what is existing…..Revemup
loop-single-reply.phpOctober 17, 2013 at 1:32 am #3058November 10, 2013 at 11:30 am #3063Hi Guys……
Well here it is a few weeks later, bike all back together with the new Hella relay…..still no fire…Did put an external Spyke button on the solenoid….it turns the motor over perfectly.
NOTE: REMOVED OUTER PRIMARY, STARTER…..IN LIEU OF WHEEL, FENDER, SPLASH TO GET INTO THE “BLACK BOX”
Well I guess I’ll move foreward with checking the bar buttons out….probably just purchase new “Run/Stop” button and new “Start” button
Jim…where do I get the buttons…..if that doesn’t work I guess the problem is in the key ignition switch……..but all other items in the key switch work…..lights, brake lights, turn signals….but no fire at the “Start” button??????????????
What a royal pain in the ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

loop-single-reply.phpNovember 19, 2013 at 7:45 am #3067I’ve been down that road. That was the first sign my ignition modular wa s going out. I checked evrything. Batteries, wiring all that stuff. Sometimes it would drag etc. I changed the ignition modular and my bike is back to great. It’s sucks so bad that there is really no good way to find out if its going bad. See if any of this is your indicators. First thing my starter started dragging the battery down. Then as it got worst it would seem to feel right when you got on it. The after about 35 minutes of riding it starts to shutdown. After you let it sit and cool off it will start and run great and the it will shutdown again. I finally sent my ignition made back to S&S motors. They sent it to Crane who bench tested it. Crane sent me a new one for free. I see bikes in having complete rewire over this. I spent 6 months trouble shooting.
loop-single-reply.phpNovember 19, 2013 at 10:33 am #3068HEY BISHOP,
THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY…..BUT NO I DID NOT HAVE ANY OF THOSE SYMPTOMS.
EVERYTHING WAS WORKING GREAT….THEN ONE AFTERNOON WENT TO LEAVE A FRIEND’S HOUSE, HIT THE START BUTTON AND IT TURNED OVER ONCE THEN THAT WAS IT……GO BACK TO START OF THIS TOPIC YOU WILL SEE I WENT TO A GREAT DEAL OF TROUBLE TO REPLACE THE RELAY……BUT NO FIRE….I DID PUT AN EXTERNAL SPYKE BUTTON ON THE SOLENOID..IT TURNS THE MOTOR OVER GREAT….BUT HAVE NOT COMPLETELY REASSEMBLED THE BIKE FROM THE RELAY EXCURSION….SO DO NOT KNOW IF IT WILL ACTUALLY FIRE THE BIKE UP…THE IGNITION SWITCH STILL ENERGYZES ALL OF THE OTHER FUNCTIONS, LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, BRAKE LIGHT ETC…..BUT NO STARTER?
WHEN I WAS IN THE BLACK BOX HOUSING THE RELAY….I DID NOT TEST OR CHANGE THE 30 AMP CIRCUIT BREAKER CONNECTED TO THE RELAY…..I WONDER IF THIS IS BAD…..WILL TEST BUTTONS PER BELOW….IF NOT THEM THEN I WILL GO BACK INTO THE BLACK BOX AND CHANGE OUT THE CIRCUIT BREAKER BEFORE COMPLETELY REASSEMBLING THE BIKE.
I HAVE NOT HAD THE TIME BUT MY NEXT MOVE IS TO TEST THE RIGHT SIDE BUTTONS,WIRING ETC….IF IT TURNS OUT TO BE THE “RUN/STOP” OR THE “START” BUTTON I NEED TO KNOW WHAT BRAND/MANUFACTURER THEY ARE…IF NOT THE BUTTONS WILL MOVE BACK INTO THE BLACK BOX FOR THE CIRCUIT BREAKER PER THE ABOVE.
I WORK OUT OF TOWN MOST OF THE TIME….THAT IS WHY IT SEEMS LIKE I AM TAKING FOREVER TO GET ANYTHING ACCOMPLISHED…I WILL FURTHER ADVISE WHEN I GET THE CHANCE.HEADJANITOR/BISHOP/ALL, ANY IDEAS?????
ROB/REVEMUP
loop-single-reply.phpNovember 19, 2013 at 10:57 am #3069Those came from Drag Specialties.
I had a short in mine and it was the wiring from the start button where it passed through the handle bars to the headlight. Sometimes it worked then when I was riding the wire short would bump the handle bar and the bike would shut down.
