I noticed rust inside my tank for the past couple of years. Finally decided to take the tank off and treat the inside with rust remover while I had the front end torn apart. Then I noticed one dime sized bubble in the paint on the bottom of the tank and one nickle sized one on the lower left side with a couple more smaller bubbles starting. I don’t think saving the paint is really a viable option which sucks because I’m sure this is custom mixed paint and custom hand done pin striping. Would you happen to have a spare tank around? If not then I guess I’ll have to find someone to get this one repaired and likely have to repaint the tank, front, and rear fender so they all match. Hope someone can match the paint. Thanks.
This is similar to what happened to my 05 bone crusher. The liner inside the tank was failing around the seam where the tank mounts to the frame. Long story short, I had to have all the tins repainted because its impossible match the paint without the new paint sticking out like a sore thumb (or so I was told). Anywho ya, all the tins repainted, new liner in tank…..was not cheap!!! I was told for bikes like my rigid tail bone crusher to it was probably a good idea to replace the small rubber grommets that are mounted between the frame and tank. They act as small shock absorbers extending the life of the liner inside the tank…. Hope this was somewhat insightful.
