After doing the deal with Stephen for a banner, I mentioned that I had put my on-going clutch problems behind. For a while last year, I began to cry myself to sleep, thinking that I had gotten myself a spendy lemonade stand. The Skull Sled was in the shed more than it was on the bricks, 4-5 fixes. The last fix was last Fall, and all was good until this Spring, the clutch didnt go completely out, but it just wasnt gettin it to the ground. I talked to Rivera, (good techies), and they suggested I go with a Rivera Pro Loc clutch. Unlike the standard clutch system with regular friction pressure plates that will slip in higher RPMs delivering all that torque, the Pro Loc actually gets more grip, the higher the RPMs. The basket is bigger, but the only modification needed was shimming the derby cover out a little bit to accomodate the bigger basket. All info is available on-line including phone #s. An assembled system is about 5 bones. Hope this helps anyone with similar issues…..you may now color me happy, and way gone.! 😀

Just out of curiosity what color pressure plate did your clutch have, black or silver?

The original was silver external plate, with red and silver plates in the stack. I forgot to mention that the main bearing was toast also. After the first clutch fix, the starter spline was sheared off and fed into the primary…spline and shaft replaced. On the third or fourth fix, another plate was added to the mix, on the exterior….got about 5-600 miles on it before the slipping became noticeable, that’s when I decided to go with the Pro Loc system from Rivera…..so far, it’s all good.
