I have a 04 Vindicator, 6 speed gear box,(not sure what brand) 250 rear tire, Primo Rivera Primary (Brute III I believe). I’m having a problem with the drive nut coming loose off the crank. The torque is right, this is the second nut I had on it. I removed the inner primary cover, the offset spacer measures 1&3/8″ 1.375. I’m measuring the inside dimension to include the lip that goes into the inner primary cover and the outside dimension at the bolt hole both are 1.375. I was told that if the offset spacer was greater that 1&7/16 or 1.4375, then that was the problem but I’m not sure the same applies if dimension is 1/16 less. If anyone has a good fix for this I would appreciate it. I would like to get this thing on the road again.
The Inner primary spacer should be 1.40 so it sounds like yours is correct. Our dealer in Corona swore that they needed to grind the black finish off the charging system stator (so the nut, spacer and stator are all bare metal to metal and then red Loctite and torque the nut to 185. Run it a 100 miles and then re-torque it again. If your so inclined get a new spacer and inner primary from Drag Specialties. There was a run of bikes in 04 that this problem. Its one of those two parts (both bought from Drag Specialties).
Thanks Stephen,
I was looking at the rear pulley and it has some damage from where the front pulley nut hit it and the belt has a couple of nicks on it.
Now that I have everything off I was thinking of going to a 11mm belt, can you see any real advantage of going to an 11mm belt vs. an 8mm belt and a 102 tooth starter ring vs. 66 tooth that I have now. Either way I still need to get a front pulley and a 1&7/16″ spacer and nut.
Thanks for help
