Anyone have problems with their bike dying at idle? After I ride for 20 minutes and come to a stop sign/light bike dies. Starts back up every time, but no idea why it dies. Carb has been gone through, new ignition, and dyno tuned. Thanks for any suggestions
loop-single-reply.phpMay 26, 2012 at 7:32 am #2794Try un-screwing the gas cap. Could be vapor lock. If yes see if the vent tube is clogged.
loop-single-reply.phpMay 26, 2012 at 7:44 am #2795No vapor lock and vent line is clear. Any more ideas? Thanks for the help. How do I order a sissy bar?
loop-single-reply.phpDecember 6, 2012 at 8:12 am #2857My bike is doing pretty much the same thing. I can ride 10 miles and it shuts off like its running out of gas. I checked for vapor lock and vent lines and the gas tank for rust etc. I can wait 20 min. and it runs another 10 miles. Changed coil. Tuned carbs. New battery. Needed one anyway. 4 years old. Have no idea whats going on. Bike shop wants to keep changing parts. ???????????????
loop-single-reply.phpDecember 6, 2012 at 8:16 am #2858Are you dropping a piston? Does it feel like you are losing half your pOwer on and off?
loop-single-reply.phpDecember 6, 2012 at 8:28 am #2859Not that I can tell. Runs strong until its shuts down. Did you figure out what happen to yours?
loop-single-reply.phpDecember 6, 2012 at 8:34 am #2860Check your circuit breakers. Heat causes faulty circuit breakers to trip and then they reset when they cool down.
loop-single-reply.phpDecember 6, 2012 at 8:38 am #2861Sounds like you need to replace a circuit breaker. Heat causes faulty breakers to trip and then the reset once they’ve cooled down.
loop-single-reply.phpDecember 6, 2012 at 8:41 am #2863Mine was an ignition problem. I had a new one put in (not crane) and had it dyno tuned and it runs like a bat out of hell. Are your fuel lines drying out? Check the bowl you may have crap in there as well. Let me know how it works out.
loop-single-reply.phpJanuary 11, 2013 at 6:16 am #2874Changed out breakers as suggested. Runs really well until it quits. No change. 30 minutes of running and its done. Wait 15 minutes and ride another 30 minutes. Changed coil this time too. Untaped wires I could get to without trearing down complete bike. All looked good. I’m thinking this is going to be a big deal. Like rewiring the computer. It’s been the norn with the Big Dogs and other customs. The control box starts at 400 if you can find one for the brand. Anyone have any ideas???????????? Thanks. By the way. Still a great bike and I love riding it. I’m just ready to ride. Wrenching is ok but riding is so much fun.
loop-single-reply.phpJanuary 11, 2013 at 6:48 am #2876Since the cheap fix (circuit breakers) didn’t do it you’ll need to look at the ignition module. With the bike turned off take a heat gun or hairdryer and heat up the module to simulate riding. Now see if the bike starts. If not, it’s the micro processor in the module dying.

Is the ignition module located on the splash guard on an ’03 Vindicator?loop-single-reply.phpJanuary 11, 2013 at 7:34 am #2878January 11, 2013 at 8:15 am #2879In the nose cone, not on the nose cone. They need to make the buttons bigger on these damn phones.
