loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 20, 2009 at 8:25 pm #2110Here is the one you need… (next to an original drilled out of a tank.)
Attachments:loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 21, 2009 at 6:05 am #2112I’m all about helping out to keep this going but this is the 3rd time that for no reason it has just popped out while riding down the highway and gave me a face full of fuel ๐ and yes i have checked and cleaned the breather hose lol. lost the first one in the weeds on the side of the highway, bought a new one for 195 $ that one popped out last fall, I found it luckily but it was beat all to hell, and I had to have a new top machined for it. looked for the one that popped out last night for almost 2 hours with no luck ๐ Im no penny pincher by far but I am a blue collar worker and almost 500 dollars between 2 caps and a new top is gettin a little crazy especially when it seems to be faulty caps not owner error, I have seen other posts from other owners experiencing same problems so its not just me. ***oh and this time when it popped out it put some really nice scratches in my gas tank right on the top dead center that you can see from across the room ***
loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 21, 2009 at 5:37 pm #2113You’ve got a tough decision to make. You can get another cap, make sure it has a rubber gasket and snug it down before you ride or you can cut out the bung, replace it with a stock bung and repaint the tank. Its no easy choice.
I’m trying to help by having the 4 styles of cap made for guys as they need them. Go to your local machine shop and have them make one they’ll cost you the same. I wish there were easier answers.
loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 24, 2009 at 5:42 pm #2115i’m gonna need to order that gas cap from you, how do you want to handle it, i am looking to get it asap
loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 24, 2009 at 6:12 pm #2117I’ll send you a PayPal payment request. I can ship it tomorrow.
loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 25, 2009 at 6:09 am #2120got the request at the right account,, sent the payment ๐ hopefully this will be the last of my gas cap issues, as you asked 2x for shirts, if out of 2x 3x fit. thanks for now till i need more parts,,,,, lol
loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 29, 2009 at 2:37 am #2129got the new cap today, thread pitch fine, cap circumfrence fine, gas cap height NOT EVEN CLOSE !!!!!!!!!!! how do you post pictures here, i took several to show you what i mean. with the cap snug in the tank the top part that you push down and turn is completely above the opening. when in the lockdown position its 5/16 of an inch above the top of the tank
loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 29, 2009 at 5:29 am #2130How many rotations are you getting before it stops turning?
Will a flat gasket vs. the O ring make up the difference to set it flush?
If we need to I’ll have the machine shop turn down the base. I thought that was the same style cap you got before.
To upload pictures, at the bottom of the posting box there is a Select image file to attach. Click browse and select the image from your computer. The max image size is 1024 pixels so you may have to lower the resolution on your camera to medium if you images are too big.
loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 30, 2009 at 1:28 am #2132i’m getting 1 1/4 full turns out of the cap before it stops, the o ring makes no difference at all, its not even getting that far into the tank before it stops. it seems like the threads towards the top of the cap are wrong ? . i found just the threaded part from the last cap that popped out on the side of the highway. i get almost 2 1/2 to 3 full turns out of that one and it sits much deeper in the tank when its screwed in. p.s thank you very much for the other item ๐ much appreciated
loop-single-reply.phpSeptember 30, 2009 at 4:43 am #2133E-mail me a photo of the old base and let take a look at it (if possible with the new one next to it.
I thought this was the one you got before but its hard to keep track. We’ll get to the bottom of it. (You and I ship more stuff back and forth you should move to CA.) ๐
