When I turn my bike off the key never wants to come out of the ignition. It lets me turn it on fine. But when I turn it back the other way and try the pull it out it fights me. Is this a key problem or an ignition problem?
Operator error. 🙂 Sorry I couldnt resist.
First take everything else off your key ring. (I ride with my key a small ring and my rotor lock key.) Keep everything else on your pocket. The weight from keys and key ring tchotchkes can cause the key to tip in the cylinder.
Second hit it with some WD-40 and take a look with a flash light and a dental pick to make sure there is no pocket lint or debris in the lock.
The most common failure on those locks is… they magically dont work. Long story short youll get some pocket crap in there and itll jamb a pin and it wont spring out.
If this happens some night when you are coming out of Hooters take a paperclip and poke each pin youll find the dead one and a little more poking with the paperclip and the pin will all of a sudden pop back out and your key will work.
