    @unknown

    Im concerned with my bike when I start it up (both hot and cold with and without the choke on). The engine turns over fine but right after it starts there is a squeal/screech noise that sounds like its coming from the left side/primary area. Im wondering if something is getting “hung up” and rubbing at the end of the starting process. Its not a grinding noise and it happens pretty much most of the time I start up and the level of noise varys a little (sometimes it seems lounder).

    Any ideas?

    After the starter shaft and spline got hung-up and actually was twisted off the starter motor, not good, but no additional damage. When a good wrench made a house call and installed another clutch plate, he suggested hitting the starter shaft with some WD 40. No problems since.
    Hope this helps.   :-/
