I have a broken primary gasket and have never replaced one. I need to know which one to get and the torque specs. I have an 04’widow. please help with anything I’m forgetting or should know about when doing this replacement. thanks
Get a gasket for an 89-93 FXST. While you have the outer primary off clean all of the belt and clutch dust out of the inner and outer covers. Clean out the jackshaft bushing on the outer primary and clean the end of the jackshaft. Add a few drops of assembly lube to the bushing before installing making sure not to drip any on the belt. If the primary bolt holes are gummed up with loctite and dirt you may want to run a tap thru them or at least give them a good blast of brake cleaner. Clean the threads on the bolts and add a few drops of blue loctite to each. Torque to 108-118 in lbs or 8.5-9.5 ft lbs. Tighten from the center out using a star or criss cross pattern. If the jackshaft or starter hangs up after you’ve installed the outer crack the bolts loose just a tad and tap the primary up by the jackshaft a few times with a deadblow hammer while cranking the bike over. This will align the jackshaft. If everything sounds good retorque the bolts. You’re off and running.
