I had to remove my shocks to get my tranny off. What I did to get the bolts off was this: I had to get a little creative so bare with me. I used an engine hoist (cherry picker) to raise the bike high enough to get enough clearance to get some leverage on the bolts. The s.o.b.s were tight! I used a nylon sling and wraped it around the frame just behind the fuel tank and raised the rear end just high enough to get the job done. It was a little hairy because I did not want to drop the bike :-X. I used some weights as a counter balance because the cherry picker wanted to come off the ground. It worked for me, but you have to be very careful. I used a box end wrench and a 4 lb hammer to break the bolts loose. When I got the bike high enough I cribbed it so the rear end would not rock. good luck

One more thing. there is some tension on the bolts from the shocks. You have to find the sweet spot and lower some weight onto the rear tire until the tension is released. If you haven’t already got it I hope this helps. I had the same problem.
