Water typically isn’t going to make a starter fail. You’ve definitely got an electrical connection failure. I would also check the switches in the handle bar. Disassemble the switch and see if you can jump the starter button. Then you are going to need to run down the electrical to the starter and may need to pull the rear wheel to check the breaker box. (It’s a horrible location, I know. we moved the breakers moved to the keyswitch box in late ’06.)
Also we need to move this discussion to the forum so others can share/benefit from this information.

Terminals were the first thing I checked. Do you mean the boot on the starter or the two boots to the relay coil from the spark plugs. Did both those things. Wouldnt the starter be trying to make some kind of noise, turning or at least clicking if it did go out? Its not making a peep. Is there a way to test that the starter is working so I can take that off the list.

Check & tighten the battery terminal connections. Pull the boot off the coil and dry it out. The box is the breakers, maybe but unlikely. Its really tough to get to. Gotta pull the rear wheel. –S.

Hey Stephen,
I got caught in the rain last night and my bike wont start today. Ive spent about 4 hours checking wires etc. When I hit the start button all that all that happens is my relay coil makes one clicking sound, thats it. My starters not even making a sound or trying to turn over. fairly new stater. Battery is fully charged. Pulled the spark plugs out and they are not getting a spark either. What is the black box (about 3×4 inches) that the wiresloop-single-reply.php -
