Why should we not use an Odyssey Battery?
I am asking because that is what everyone is trying to sell, claiming it has the best CCA.
I am having the problem where when i get off work at 6:30AM and it is under 50 degrees the eng turns over but just will not quite catch, if I jump it with any battery the little extra is all it takes and it starts right up. So i bought one of those boost boxes from harbor freight and it starts fine as long as I jump it with the booster.
Thanks for the help a head of time.loop-single-reply.phpNovember 14, 2015 at 12:55 pm #3381Odyssey batteries do advertise a high CCA rating. What they don’t tell you is that 545+ CCA rating is only for the first 3-5 seconds. After that the amps drops below 150. So as your volts drop off drastically the amps raise in your starter and fry the solenoid. brushes and eventually the armature. The Odyssey battery works for fuel injected bikes and do best with a 3 phase charging system. Our bikes are carbureted and have single phase charging systems. I recommend upgrading to a 3 phase charging system and installing an Anti Gravity 750 CCA battery.

These starters cost too much to be frying…It was less than 40 deg this morning, it took me 5 min to finally get it to run, it was “almost but not quite” then eventually caught. I am thinking if I am going to run this all winter and it is going to be this cold, I should get one of those Motorcycle tent garages and put a heater in it and warm it to 65 deg in the morning then take the bike out and start it. I think I’ll order some of those battery warmed gloves also LoL.
Thanks againloop-single-reply.phpNovember 15, 2015 at 2:33 am #3383Tent and gloves sound good lol.
A few other things, make sure your plugs are not fouled. If you’re using your choke for more than 10-15 seconds after the motor lights then your plugs are fouled. Throw in a fresh set of RN12YC plugs and back the timing off a shade. Once the motor fires you need to turn off the choke asap and keep the motor idling with the throttle. It’s a little more effort but it preserves the plugs.loop-single-reply.phpNovember 15, 2015 at 1:01 pm #3384 -
