Since the battery tests fine and assuming the rest of the electrical works fine, I’d say the speedo needs to be replaced.

You’ll need to do a load test on the battery to determine if you have a bad cell.

Locate your 15 amp circuit breakers in the ignition box on the seat post. There will be three 15 amp breakers taped together and you’re looking for the one with the blue wires running to it. This is the breaker that controls the headlight and taillight. If the problem persists after you replace the breaker you’ll need to check for a dead short in that blue wire or headlight plug or taillight socket.

It sucks when you have to take your Ferrari to the Ford dealer. You needed new plugs! Fouled plugs keep the bike from starting so most people lay on the starter button trying to get the motor to light which in turn is running the battery well below the 12v required for optimal starter function. It also fries the armature in the starter cuz your drawing too many amps. Add these problems to a bike with a history of battery issues and you have a no bueno situation. No knock on hd but their starters have the weakest drives on the market and the highest failure rate on big cubic inch motors. In my experience, hd techs working off a flat rate manual and making a cursory diagnosis without getting to the root of the problem make the situation worse. As long as you have a battery issue you will always have a starter issue, hd spyke or otherwise. Fouled plugs, wiring issues, bad regulator, riding below 2400 RPM’s with a single phase charging system, wiring on extra accessories, faulty compression releases, using a battery with less than 300 CCA’s etc etc etc will all cause your bike to go through batteries. Also, in one of your earlier posts you said that with the key in the on position all of your grounds were energized? That would mean you have a dead short to the frame somewhere or the relay is pinned wrong. A dead short is the quickest way to drain a battery which would cause a low voltage situation when trying to start the bike. The starter is gonna draw too many amps due to lack of voltage and fry. Hopefully the tech that sold you the plugs, battery and starter caught this?

Power goes from the battery to the ignition switch, from ignition switch to start switch on bars, from start switch to starter relay, from relay to solenoid. Was this bike originally sold in New Jersey?

Make sure the ignition switch is good. Check for power leaving the switch. Also, to have all the lights not work on the bike would either be the main harness plugs under the tank or at the oil bag not being connected or the turn signal module has died. Also check the 15 amp circuit breakers.

Two things are known to cause this problem. First, if the freeplay adjustment on the brake pedal is adjusted out the rear brake will start to engage. As the brake fluid gets hotter and expands it starts to lock up the brake. Second, some DOT 5 brake fluids cause the plunger o-rings to swell and lock up the brake system. We only ran Maxima DOT 5 fluid. Bel-Rey brake fluid swells the o-rings too much and can lock up master cylinder.

Finding a seat to fit your bike won’t be easy. Danny Gray worked with Daytec Frames and Russ Wernimont Designs to make a seat to fit these components. Also, Danny handed off the seat design business back around 2000. Find a local seat maker and they may be able to add more cushion to your existing seat.

.038-.042 for the plug gap. Depending on which cap you have it sounds like your seal is missing or the wrong one is installed. Also, you can’t “top off” these chopper tanks. Gas will leak from the cap and the vent tube.

5th & 6th gear? Have the top breathers been altered in any way? Sustained high RPMs on a 113 usually result in heavy blowby out the top breathers resulting in air cleaner drool. If the top breathers have been capped or replaced with those worthless “custom” breathers that reduce the diameter of the breathers you’re gonna force the blowby out the crank vent. Does any oil pool under the bike after it’s been ran?

Sounds like S&S couldn’t meet demand back in the day and was using any cases on hand to fill orders. Bet they’re not having those problems these days.
