well I took the switch out and hooked up the wires and the N light comes on. As I installed the switch with the trans in neutral I get no light even if the switch is only in 1 thread but as soon as I put it in gear the N is on the screen. Now I remember why I am not an electrician. i put the switch back in so things don’t leak and spot tied the wires, I am done with this switch permanently.
loop-single-reply.phpLet me be more clear, before I put the trans in the bike I installed the switch and hooked up the ohm meter because I was worried about depth clearances. I moved the shifter out of neutral and back in to neutral with the meter attached to the switch and everything showed good with the switch function. Is one side of the 2 wires that connect to the switch suppose to have power (12 volts)? I think I have an electrical issue maybe with that system.
Update: The only short in the electrical system is between my ears, lol. You are right, I read the function of the switch backwards, so what I have now is when it is in neutral I get no light but when i am in gear the N shows nice and bright. So I will have to back this switch out until it works right and put a washer the right size under it.
Thanksloop-single-reply.phpUpdate: I got the Rivera Primo 6 trans installed and is it ever great compared to the Ultima that broke.
I only have one small issue, I put the neutral switch in the trans from the Ultima and I tested it with an OHM meter before I installed, everything was working perfect with the switch. I hooked up the wires but I get no “N” on the speedo display when I put it in neutral, I tried reversing the wires not believing that it would matter and it did not help.
Neutral is SOoooo easy to find on this new trans that I do not need it but it would be nice to have it working. It did work on the old trans after I spent minutes finding neutral. If you know of a quick fix to try please let me know.
Thanksloop-single-reply.phpYep, I came in the house to refill my coffee and expressed my displeasure to my wife about this nut. After I brewed my cup I told her I am headed down to Harbor Freight to get a torch, she said go out and try it one more time before you go,I put the wrench on it and the nut just came right loose with no effort? I went back in and asked what do you know, she said she had prayed. I said to bad you did not pray about him preserving the trans in the first place LoL.
So its all good. I’ll clean up the threads and put red loctite on it when I assemble it.
Thanks for the quick response. I have the trans ready to come out I am just waiting on the special socket to remove that nut on the drive side.
By the way I know the compensator nut torque is like 165ftlbs what is the torque on the 4 bottom trans nuts and that special 1 7/8 nut?
thanksloop-single-reply.phpThanks a bunch, thats what i needed to know. I think what i am going to do is have Louie build me a trans but mean time I am going to install a primo 6. When i get the built trans I will put it in a box with everything required to change the trans on the road and tape it up ready to ship. Then if I have a failure when I am far from safety, I can call my wife and have her overnight the box to me so I can fix the bike where ever I happen to be…and it will still be $1500 cheaper than a Baker trans…
loop-single-reply.phpPlease get back to me quick with the price on the trans with good gears. Otherwise I am going to roll the dice and choose either a 6 speed from Revtech 3 or less roll or a Primo 4 or more roll. The trans that blew is a Ultima 6 speed
Thanksloop-single-reply.phpI am definitely interested the price of the 6 speed with the upgraded gears installed as long as Visa or Paypal is acceptable payment.
Thanksloop-single-reply.phpThanks, i did not even consider that. Well what I did was took some wood and some light body work hammers and tap, tap, tapped it back to less than .002 in the right rear corner, put new gaskets and torqued everything according to the book, that is a lesson learned -don’t run this thing in slow traffic and get it too hot!. i ran it for a while and it showed no leakage, it sure loves to blow fire out that rear pipe when it is cold, it goes away when it gets warm. The 4, 1 inch bolts got snugged very close to torque, there was no way to reach them. OMG don’t get me started on the pushrod tubes using a screwdriver…what a pita. I will buy the tool for next time. I just about got all the leaks stopped, I only have one small one where the oil filter housing bolts on to fix and then I’ll be done for a while.
loop-single-reply.phpThanks, I searched high and low but could not come up with that.
if you have time for another question…My rear cylinder Rocker box started leaking oil in the right rear corner where it connects to the head.
I pulled it off and checked it with a straight edge and it is warped.
Should I have it machined flat again or spend the $200+ for a new one.
Just wondering what is the best route to go.
Thanksloop-single-reply.phpThat is even better news, i will keep Active spring tech on file in case I need them. My trans has a lot of backlash in the lower gears. I put shockproof lube in it and it made silent compared to what it was. I expect i will need to do something in the future.
Thanks for the infoloop-single-reply.phpHe told me he wound up with large boxes of all the roadmax transmissions and parts. His point was that if I have any trouble to look him up cause he has the parts, i told him fortunately my trans is still working good at 14K miles so far. You know more about this than I ever will. I was just passing along what I was told by Ben.
loop-single-reply.phpIt is amazing how you know what noobs like me do without even asking!
I will change the plugs and start shutting the choke down quickly after starting.
Thanks for the help.loop-single-reply.phpThank you!
These starters cost too much to be frying…It was less than 40 deg this morning, it took me 5 min to finally get it to run, it was “almost but not quite” then eventually caught. I am thinking if I am going to run this all winter and it is going to be this cold, I should get one of those Motorcycle tent garages and put a heater in it and warm it to 65 deg in the morning then take the bike out and start it. I think I’ll order some of those battery warmed gloves also LoL.
Thanks againloop-single-reply.phpWow, Thanks for the good info. I figured if looks to good to be true then it is :S . I will keep buying from Drag Specialties on the important stuff but on things like the horn and extended foot pegs I might try to use the Chinese.
I rode the bike to Reno and back it idles rough but it runs great getting 44+ mpg at 70-75 mph in 6th gear or running 65 mph in 5th gear.
I was surprised at the number of people who believe these bikes are not reliable for a distance run. I find it is twice as cool as the other bikes on the road and now that I have gotten use to it, it is far more comfortable than my 1700 Roadstar Bagger was.
As always thanks for keeping the noobie straight.loop-single-reply.php -
