Great addition! How easily we forget. The relays can fry especially the ones in the key switch box behind the motor (how hot does it get there?) Duh! Yes. check the relays.
loop-single-reply.phpMe: 2005 Banshee
Long story I’ll try to make short
My problem sounds same as you (Booster cables and still no start)
I bought the strongest Interstate battery that would fit
Trickle charger 100% of the time when parked
Starter to Spyke TWICE
Finally I was riding in Daytona and it died at a red light would not start (Omit Long part of story)
I own a company and several vehicles described all that was done to my mechanic his first question: Have you checked the starter relay???
I when into the very small wiring box found starter relay and it fell apart in my hand rotted to shit. $9.83 at parts store 1.5 hours trying to get everything back in that box, and my bike cranks stronger than ever since I have it. Now only put it on Trickle charger if going to set month or more I still can remember the difference. Before new relay I would nail the starter switch and engine would barely roll over, now bam every time. SO I would suggest invest in a new starter relay and go from there. One other thing the reason my original one rotted was because it was in the bottom of the box and when washed or in rain (very seldom) water will stand in bottom of wiring box. I drilled a small hole in bottom and when repacking the box put the relays in the middle not in the bottomloop-single-reply.phpMy first question would be is your charging system and regulator working properly? It sounds like you may be running on battery w/o charging. One thing to remember is your charging system doesn’t really charge under 2000 RPM. So when you ride get it up into the rev’s. Second I keep a trickle charger on my bike 24/7 when its not being ridden. Its doubtful its the starters problem but that may be a symptom of a faulty charging system. Time to take it to a mechanic and have them test the charging system.
loop-single-reply.phpWe had a rash of this in 06&07. (I had the same thing happen on my bike.) For a long time Accutronix swore it was just Vengeance… then they quietly issued a service bulletin.
Thanks for the info Jim! 🙂 –S.
loop-single-reply.phpJim (head Janitor) says heat up the caps before using the soft wrench. The heat will re-liquify the red loc-tite and you will be able to remove the caps.
loop-single-reply.phpI have a set of pro-one lower legs in storage and will sell you the caps… if you will send the damaged caps back to me so I can send them out to be striped, polished and re-chromed.
loop-single-reply.phpJim is correct, the caps are vented so if you top off the tank gas will come out. If it pours out check your gasket.
1) Is it there?
2) Is the cap sealing? To check get a second O-ring and double it up with the gasket. The top of your cap should now sit above the tank the height of the o-ring. If not you may need to use a taller gasket.
loop-single-reply.phpAh sorry… I was thinking you were looking for the seals. so back to the original problem. I assume you’ve tried a Boa wrench. Also Pro-One has some other styles that fit. Are they out of all of them?
Attachments:loop-single-reply.phpI think there are some from Drag Specialties that’ll work. I’ll check with Jim (Head Janitor / parts guru).
loop-single-reply.phpI’d do a continuity check to make sure you dont have any shorts and if everything checks out then call dakota digital and replace the speedo head.
loop-single-reply.phpNext pull that back of the speedo carefully push the connector back onto the fingers and see if it wakes up. If yes put a piece of foam rubber behind the connector before you put the back plate back on.
loop-single-reply.phpto get the pics posted they need to be smaller. If you dont know how email them to yourself and most programs will give you the choice to reduce the size.
