Well, I put the battery back in and was messing with the solenoid (I looked it up on the internet). I unpluged the little wire that goes into it and tightened down the battery connections and was going to try and jump it. I thought I would try and start it one last time and it started right up. It must have been a loose battery connection or the little wire was loose and when I pluged it back in all was well.

I went and got my battery tested and it came out OK so it looks like its not the battery or voltage reg. He did mention to check the starter selonoid and see if thats bad. Any one have any issues with theirs? I have to look it up because Im not sure where its at on the bike or what exactly it looks like.

Awesome, that sounds just like what’s going on. One last question, is there a certain voltage reg I should look for or will anyone do?

My battery seemed fine.Trickle charger alway showed green light and bike would start fine.Like you,I was riding around for a couple hours, had turned off and started the bike several times with no problem.Pulled up in front of my garage door, shut the bike off,and when I tried to start it again….bang!
I hooked it up to the trickle charger, and it would end up going green to indicate charged….but would not crank up.
Got my mechanic friend to haul it to his shop and got it started with another battery. He the checked the voltage regulator and it was bad.Since the new regulator and battery,no further problem.I was lucky that he was able to get the battery replaced under warranty with his supplier.
Im not saying this is absolutely your problem, but I would start there as its a much cheaper and easier fix than replacing your starter. If it turns out you need a starter, heres a link for a company I do a lot of bussiness with that has good prices on them……Kent

The battery in there now is probably less than a year old and it still has juice because the front headlight still works.

Do I buy a new one anyway or look at a new voltage regulator?

    Hey
I know that Steve doesnt agree with this but try pushing down on either the from or rear decompression release in the center of the heads.Let me know if it works .My vendetta has done the same thing since day one and this always works for me.Now if I could just get the wife to do it .She already burned up one battery, Good luck.

My raider has a pop up that often get too tight to remove by hand.I learned to carry a small pair of channel locks.

My guess is the top has seperated from the base. So the first thing is to get the top off. If its turning 360 deg the roll pin has sheared which means the top will come out of the base. You may be able to pull it out with some vice grips. Be careful not to pry or you might screw up the paint. If you have to drill/cut or do other major surgery youll need to flush your tank after the operation and install an inline fuel filter so you dont drop metal into your engine.

After you get the top off, next try putting a little gasoline around the edge of the base (which is stuck in the tank) to act as a solvent. Let it sit and then use a screw driver to try to turn the cap base to remove. Chances are there is something in your threads that has jammed the cap.

Then have a machine shop make you that parts to repair the cap or order one from me.

PS – If you you want to get your bike to the shop call AAA get the $30 a year package and they will tow your bike on a flat bed.

Like I said, according to my receipt, the rear mount stand is listed as a ‘Telescop’. The shop that I bought my Raider at did the work, they have since closed the door. I’m in touch with Jeff, the former main wrench at the shop. I’ll try to get in touch with him and find out what I can about the stand….soon as I get some more info, I’ll let you know.

Just checked my receipt for the rear mount kickstand. It lists the stand as Telescop priced at $200.95, the labor was $68.50, which includes removal of the front stand (which I used on my Softail), and installation of the rear mount stand. Great look and function.
