First remove the sensor unit from the top of the transmission and clean any debris off the magnet. (If there is a lot of debris stop doing burn-outs and power shifting.) If that dosnt fix it remove the back of the speedo and push all the plugs back onto the pins to make sure you have a good connection also you may want to put a piece of foam rubber in there to compress the pins into place when you put the cover back on. These are the two most common reasons the speedo will malfunction. Next remove the speedo and ship it to Dakota Digital to have them inspect/repair.
Finally trace the wire from the tranny sensor and make sure it has no shorts. This can be dramatic as the tank will need to come off and you will need to “open up” the wiring harness. Not for the rookie or the faint of heart.
Last but not least remove the speedo and pretend you own a home-made chopper. (Stop laughing and/or wipe that look of disgust off your face. I met a guy at a rally who removed most of his electrical components to make his bike look cool. :-?) To each his own.
loop-single-reply.phpOn the grinding issue, the jackshaft may be sticking. Have your tech check it and make sure its properly aligned and lubricated. If the starter is a Spyke they are pretty much bullet-proof and if they fail they will rebuild yours cheap. (Anyone who puts anything but a Spyke starter on their bike should have their head examined.)
loop-single-reply.phpThe Hotmatch caps have HOTMATCH and Pat pending milled into the bottom of the cap. MM caps are blank. Both are made out of steel. One wont fit the other because of the depth of the threads. The “new” caps are aluminum and will definetely fit the MM bungs and may fit the HM bungs (Ive never tried one. Most of the HM guys who have replaced caps have gone directly to HM.) So… If you want to get one and try it, if It dosnt work Ill give you a full refund (you pay the shipping back.)
If it used to work, theres something in the bung or cap threads. Given the cost of these caps, Ive heard some crazy stories about caps being stolen and switched etc. Youre not in Texas by any chance are you?

I did several 4-500 mile rides on my 03 Raider and had no problems with riding it long distances.Very comfortable ride, and you can actually get really good fuel mileage if you dont ride wide open all the time.I got in the high 40s and 50 mpg regularly.Way better than my 07 Ultra!Took the 03 on every high altitude mountain in North Carolina, switch back turns and all with no problems. These bikes are very rideable in capable hands. That is a nice area to ride…
