Vengeance Motorcycles is thrilled to be accepted as an entrant in the World Championship of Bike Building to be held in Sturgis, SD on August 5,6,7th. The Vengeance entry is a custom built 2007 Vengeance Maxis chopper which will participate on the “production” category. This motorcycle was a year in the making and is a triumph of spirit and determination on the part of the staff of Vengeance Motorcycles.
This motorcycle was custom ordered by a Los Angeles-based film producer in August of 2005. The client had purchased a Maxis to use in one of his film projects but he wanted something a little more extreme. So the staff of Vengeance cooked up the basics that a year later became the bike dubbed the “Twilight Zone”.
Vengeance started with a production Maxis platform which is a RSD chopper frame with a 2″ backbone stretch and 6″ downtube stretch and 40 degrees of rake. The frame was manufactured by Pro-One and became the jump off point for the whole project. The client specified that he wanted a springer chopper and that he liked the American Suspension Dragon which was a perfect choice for this bike. The 10″ over front-end was matched with a set of Gothic Wheels by Pro-One. The bike wears 18×10.5″ in the back shod with a Metzler 280 tire and 21″ x 3.25 in the front with a matching Metzler 120/70 rounding out the rubber. The project really started taking shape when Vengeance motor builder Ted Metcalf selected the TP124 motor as the power plant. This motor provides gobs of power in a package that produces less vibration than many smaller motors. The motor was mated with a custom 3″ open belt drive connected to a Primo-Rivera 6-Speed RSD transmission driving a 1.25″ final belt drive twisting a 65 tooth chrome pully.
The look of the bike was radically changed with a full set of custom sheet metal including a custom tank hand built by JR Enterprises of Gardena, CA and a one-off swing arm mounted rear fender built in house by Vengeance lead-fabricator Curt Vibbard. Vengeance included a Progressive Air suspension to give the soft-style frame a just-right low stance. The bike was fitted with a stock Vengeance wiring harness and equipped with a Dakota Digital speedo/tach, Pro-One DOT mirrors and Chris Products bullet turn signals to keep the bike legal on the road.
The final piece of the project was the eye-popping paint that was laid on the custom sheetmetal by AJ’s Customs in Mesa Arizona. The paint scheme is comprised of dozens of pieces of original artwork evoking the feeling of an old black and white television show. The artwork is so detailed many of the pieces appear to be photographs but it was all airbrushed by the team at AJ’s. The images range from beautiful women and babies to monsters and demons. Each piece causes the viewer to react with different emotions of shock, surprise and amazement. The artistry of the paint is a crowning glory for this one of a kind “production” motorcycle.
Vengeance will have this bike on display at their truck at the Rockin the Rally venue in Sturgis through out the rally week.
